We designed the remodel and additions for this existing lakefront home. A new master suite wing was added, the existing master suite was renovated, a sunroom was replaced with a bedroom, and the entire house was fully renovated. The existing great room cathedral ceilings were maintained, and the west gable end wall was reconstructed to fill the entire wall with windows and finally flood the space with natural light. A higher flat ceiling was provided in the kitchen and we decided to not do a kitchen cathedral to eliminate dust shelves with exposed structure. Unique exterior amenities include a ramp integrated with a stair to the front entry and expanding the lakeside deck.
The project was on what was determined to be along the edge of a State of Michigan critical dune which required meticulous documentation of proposed site work. We modeled the site in 3d as part of our documents. A new septic system was part of the project as week and additions had to maintain required clearances. The five-sided end wall to the master bedroom along with the scissor-truss roof structure creates a dramatic view and space.
