This project was addition to a 70-year old lake house on a small midwestern lake with major renovations to the existing house as well. The owner has several relatives over on summer weekends and wanted spaces that could accommodate everyone for overnight stays, meals, and entertaining. While the lake was a great amenity, they also gather to watch sports and a TV wall in the family room drove the decision to have a TV wall toward the neighbors, where loss of view was not an issue. The floor upstairs in the new addition bedrooms steps up to allow for a higher ceiling in the great room below. The two existing upstairs bedrooms had small windows in the gable that did not face the lake. Creating dormer additions on the lake side created both greatly needed usable space and priceless lake views.
The builder was able to construction the project using our design development documents. Even without details and notes the builder was impressed with the issues worked out in the design and the drawings were very clear on intent for construction and the geometry to be achieved.
